About Kunal

Kunal Phalak is based out of WestBridge’s Silicon Valley office and works closely with founders, leveraging his investment experience and cross-border network to help companies scale and expand into the US market.

Prior to joining WestBridge out of its Silicon Valley office, Kunal was with Vertex Ventures, where he focused on Seed to Series B investments across India. During his three-year tenure, he played a key role in over ten investments spanning SaaS, consumer goods, financial services, and healthcare. Earlier in his career, Kunal was part of McKinsey’s Advanced Analytics Practice, working with case teams in Tokyo and London. He began his professional journey after earning a degree in electrical engineering from IIT Bombay, where he also discovered his passion for entrepreneurship and co-founded TheShopWiz, a Yelp-like review platform focused on helping consumers make informed fashion choices. He also holds an M.B.A.

Kunal grew up in Pune and has long been fascinated by robotics and electronics. He is particularly excited about the role software exports can play in India’s economic development and believes the IT services sector has the potential to mirror the impact manufacturing has had in China. Outside of work, Kunal enjoys working out, taking swing dance classes, and listening to his favorite podcast, The Knowledge Project. An avid traveler, he has visited over 20 countries and hopes to reach 40 before turning 40.
